Watches can become battered, worn, scuffed and dull over time. There are many reasons why you should get your watch polished

  1. Aesthetics: Over time, watches can develop scratches, scuffs, or other imperfections on their cases and bracelets. Getting your watch polished can restore its original shine and luster, making it look brand new again. This is particularly important if you have a luxury or high-end watch that you want to keep in pristine condition

  2. Resale value: If you plan to sell or trade your watch in the future, having it polished can increase its resale value. Potential buyers are often willing to pay more for a watch that appears well-maintained and in excellent condition.

  3. Longevity: Polishing your watch can help remove dirt, grime, and other contaminants that can accumulate over time. These particles can potentially damage the watch's components, such as the case, crystal, or bracelet if left unaddressed. By regularly polishing your watch, you can help prolong its lifespan and ensure it remains in optimal working condition.

If done incorrectly, polishing can ruin the geometry of the watch and band, soften/ blend edges or even make it look completely different than it did originally, watch refinishing is not a simple task and should be undertaken with great care. Poorly refinished watches have the affects of:

  1. decreasing the watches value

  2. making it look visually bad

  3. cheapen the look and feel of the watch

It’s important to have a conversation about what kind of polishing job your watchmaker is going to do and how close they can get it back the proper finish. Of course this is depends on the cost of the watch and the cost of the polish.
